speaking of the 4 trans version. board would look like this:
Image

the schematic shows a diode from Q3 coll to a 3.3M R at base Q4. i cannot see a diode in the pic i shot. it could be hiding under the ceramic caps on the upper left, but i was hesistant to bend the leads and possibly break one of the caps.

if you have one of these in your possession, can you take a look and see if you have a diode on the board?

I have pics of two different units. One has a bigger board with a different layout. The diode is visible on the component side of the board. The other is identical to yours and has no visible diode on the component side although those big caps do obscure a lot. Must be hiding under the board?

the back side is clean, i got a pic of that as well. i kinda suspect there is no diode on this version, even though the schem shows it.
brad, one of your old posts at aron's DIY helped us understand the gating - appreciate it a few years after the fact. i really had a lot of fun rding the wave at the threshold of the gate using playing dynamics. a really fun fuzz, gonna have to build one with some low gain button tops i have collected.

Here's a pic I can't remember where I got it -- that shows the diode
But it looks different to the layout in mine - -still 4 transistors though

Wow, thanks guys. Maestro sure went crazy making so many different versions, all in the same basic enclosure.

If you look at the lower left in the picture, there are more leads than would be needed for the two capacitors there. Could that be where it is hiding?

I just looked at one of mine (4 trans) - and yes, there is what looks to be a small, striped diode there - right between those two ceramic caps in the lower left...can take a pic later, but gotta hit the bricks for a Monster Route right now... :cthulhu2:
