Ok - here we go haha
Yes- I sniff at my fuzzes!
and I like how that circuit smells - it even gives me nostalgic feelings -it's like the smell of a new book somehow...
Btw. I only sniff at fuzzes and books
Maybe the change to a different (lead free) solder also changed the smell of the D*A*M pedals guts... the new ones smell different - not as good I think...
...just sayin
Fortunately this has no sonic effect on Dave's creations - to link the smell of a circuit to it's sound would be a bit too TGP ...maybe even beyond it So, leaving the odoration issue aside I definitely think that Dave's pedals get better and better - and they already started at fuzz-god-level out of my perspective!
So...
happy sniffing!
^ classic post, thanks Torsten I too have noticed the delights of sniffing DAM pedals
My old Supa had a really unique smell, kind of an old mans musty/rusty shed smell
In general lead shouldn't be a problem (RoHS is mainly related to environmental release) but make sure you wash your hands especially if you're going to be playing with the kids. A bigger problem is the rosin core which is an irritant and a cause of occupational asthma. HSE in the UK have a pamphlet about safe use:
Yeah, lead or lead free solder pose very tiny tiny health risks (unless you're sniffing your stomp boxes to much), a fume extractor is more form the Rosin /flux fumes in the core of your solder, long term exposure can lead to health problems.
I always solder with an small extractor and open window.
