thoughts/preferences on collector voltage in Range Master?

Post by vanguard »

Curious what folks familiar with the circuit think. Geofex famously recommends around 7v. As I've built my own, and checked out builds of lots of great builders, I find voltage from 5v on through 7v. Lower voltage seems to yield a louder, cleaner, slightly harder effect, while 7v gives a slightly quieter, softer, fuzzier effect. It seems some builders simply do stock resistor values on every build and use transistors with hfe 70-150 or so. What do you folks prefer?
