Amp advice: Replacement Cap Can options

Post by HorseyBoy »

Digging the shit out of my Magnatone/Da Vinci 413 amp. Vibrato is beautiful, clean sounds are awesome, break up is great, takes pedals like a champion, etc. But there's a bit of cycle hum at higher volumes and I should probably replace the cap can (filter caps) because it's long overdue.
The cap can in there is a 40/30/20/20 at 450 volts. Looks like this:

Schematics for the 413 (and all its variations) sometimes show the filter caps being 20/20/20 at 450 volts, but those are all for the circuit with a 5Y3 rectifier. Mine is a little special and uses a solid state rectifier and the same 40/30/20/20 cap can they started putting in the M10. In any case, I want to replace like for like.
This cap can from Antique Electronic Supply will fit perfectly (it's a little longer, bu the diameter is exact) and seems to be as close as I can get: https://www.tubesandmore.com/products/c ... 40402020uf
The other option would be to use separate caps on a tag strip.
So is going up in voltage (from 450 to 525) a big deal, and is the change to 40/40 going to be noticeable?
All advice welcome. Oh, and Antique Electronic Supply have 20% off all caps at the moment, so the time is right!

^ Thanks, Dr Balls. I've used CE Manufacturing cap cans before (straight replacement on a VibroChamp) so I know they do good stuff. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't about to do something stupid.
