Now all I need is some money!

*Looks slightly begrudgingly at new bass*

The Captain wrote:Yarp its a YAFF. I don't mention the Fuzz Face connection in the description on the site as I'd consider it wrong to do so. As in, if you wanted a true vintage sounding Fuzz Face and bought a Meathead you would not be a happy bunny. The biasing is wide open on the Meathead, its bigger and more modern in its fuzziness than say how a Fuzz Face is biased. I didn't tune the circuit for clean up....some geetars and amps you'll get good clean up but its not in the plan. The Meathead is supposed to break things. :hihi:
Wondering if that's true for them all? I have an early MH -- #8 from 2004, BC107&8, and unless there's a bigtit porn star with the same name, it was built for the dude from Queens of the Stone Age -- and it's a very polite little thing. More a kinda 'Pardon me, I'll just put a wee bit of hair around your signal if you don't mind that is" than the all-out fuck-you-in-the-ass-without-even-the-goddamn-common-courtesy-to-give-you-a-reach-around of my later one (2006).

I'm digging it, but then I like the Sam Ash/Astrotone low-gain thing too. It's certainly not a monster fuzz sound, and I doubt it would break anything without asking first. It's cool into a Titan for sure.
teh D*A*M business plan wrote:The “Meathead” is a beefed up mutant version of the 1970’s “Dallas Music Industries Fuzz Face” and the “Electro Harmonix Muff Fuzz”. It has a very fat tone with an excellent bass response and cleans up wonderfully with the guitar volume backed off, something which the silicon Fuzz Face and the Muff Fuzz did not do well. Both these vintage effects are also very prone to noise and interference but fortunately the Meathead has very low background noise for such a high output silicon device. The Meathead also features correctly biased gain selected transistors so the tone is very articulate and dynamic, again something which the Fuzz Face and Muff Fuzz did not have.

The Meathead is border line between overdrive and fuzz box, the tone produced is very natural sounding and has a very woody organic quality.
Its main role is as a booster to push overdriven tube amplifiers over the top in to huge wall of meaty fuzz that will maintain good string definition and clarity even at high saturation.

I have a hammerite Meathead (AWESOME fuzz), and with my Strat with vintage voiced singlecoils into a relatively clean Sovtek MIG 50, it cleans up very well, it things out some, but I like that because at 10 you've got SUPER heavy
fuck-you-in-the-ass-without-even-the-goddamn-common-courtesy-to-give-you-a-reach-around
then you back the volume down to 8 or 9 and it is still pretty dirty, but not quite as heavy with plenty of clarity. It's perfect for me.

Although with humbuckers, it doesn't clean up as well.

Btw, Dev, you have some of the funniest comments I've yet read on a guitar forum!

The first maybe 10 or so were low gain affairs, based closer to the Muff Fuzz than the Fuzz Face. Was more like a fat dirty booster than a fuzz. No ass fucking on the go there really :hihi:

does the guitarist from queens of the stone age still use the earlier more polite version?
