New Blue (Red) Rooster transistor type?

Post by imguitardan »

Does any one know what's in the batch that was sold by Jon (Downstroke) today? I was lucky enough to get one and am curious as to what's in there (and how it may stack up to the coveted OC44)?

Looked like OC7(1 or 2) from the pics...
OC71 is def more coveted than OC44 in my book. (I think the word Dave used to describe the OC44 was "dogshit" but I might be mistaken :)
I like my OC44 JMI though
Congratulations on the quick trigger finger there ... I hovered

The Cap'ns response from the Downstroke thread:

OC72's I'd actually planned to revert back the OC140's and the NPN circuit type for the new Roosters but I ended up staying on the original path. I'd spent good deal of time trying to get a device that would get me close to having a decent balanced mix of teeth and shine.
I really like OC71's myself but I know some folk like a bit more growl than these can give out. I also really dig the clarity the OC140's will put out but I wanted a little more old school chewiness than that hi-fi shininess. So yeah, OC72's. Like OC71's but with more hair and pointy teeth.

This also means the circuit type stays as being PNP and positive ground. Its kinda easy to remember too. The two small box pedals in the line-up, the Rooster and the Bee, with the bug eyes are both positive ground. Bug eyes = positive ground.
