Jimmy Page: Early Sessions
A thread to highlight Pagey's mid-60's session work. I'll start with his first Decca session, recorded in late 1962 for a recording with former Shadows rhythm section, Jet Harris & Tony Meehan. Jimmy makes his debut on acoustic guitar. Kinda "spaghetti western" style flourishes. No fuzz, but what a great compliment to the song! Gotta love Meehan's Gene Krupa style drum solo, too. Diamonds hit #1 in U.K.from 31st January until 21st February 1963.

Was it ever fully confirmed that was Jimmy on Sunshine Superman?

Yes, by the man himself.kelvinator60 wrote:Was it ever fully confirmed that was Jimmy on Sunshine Superman?
Page appeared at Donovan's fairly recent Albert Hall concert to play his part again.
:)
I reckon it's for sure that some of the things that appear in this thread won't actually feature Page though. There's a lot of dubious info out there as to what he actually played on.

^ Well, i agree - there will no doubt be questionable ones...any of which are open to discussion. Nothing wrong with a healthy debate...
For me, recently thinking about Can't Explain by The Who. I always thought it was 100% Pete on it, (sounds like his Rickenbacker 12 string) but seems to be pretty common to find the claim that Page played rhythm on it. Has anybody found any definitive word on that?
There's that story about Bald Headed Woman - i think, where Page wouldn't allow Pete to use his "fuzz box"(?)
...that it's JP playing a flurry of lead riffin' - near the end - th' sounds remind me a bit of Bloomfield on Tombstone Blues , but it is very low in the mix. Well, re; fuzziness, the opening chords: fully gated -very Maestro FZ-1-ish...Perhaps the infamous "custom" Mayer fuzz? hmmmm...sustain is not very long...heh
Still dozens of recordings where there's no doubt it's JP...Nice posts, guys -keep 'em rolling...

Re: Jimmy Page: Early Sessions
I always loved Circles. I know Page produced that one, but is he playing on it? Is that like a Maestro tone/volume pedal for those swells?
Which part of Baby Please Don't Go did Page play? Is he the main guitar riff or the background 2nd guitar you hear in the breakdown section?
either way!!!
