BC239B's??

Hey everyone

new to the board, just received a D*A*M ramhead second hand (the only way to get them these days?) and am amazed, great sounding pedal and i dont think i've ever heard a tone control quite like what this one seems to do..

so, on opening it up, its No. 41 big board with BC239B's in it. now i know that these are sometimes built with other transistors from looking at the pedal registry, so no worries there, just wondering does anyone know why it was made with these and what the difference tonally or in terms of gain charcteristics is between these and BC239C's?
