Re: The FuZzY HaSkInS!
Hmm good question.
I had a oxfuzz years ago with NKT274’s. These were darker than the 275’s I had in a sweet sound Monterey I had at the time.
I even had 2 Analogman sunfaces.. one with white dotted NKT275’s and one with red dots. The whites were noticeably brighter and cleaned right up with the volume knob. Red dots were warmer and cleaned up but with a little grit.
So I’m guessing these 281’s should be different again. Judging by what I’ve heard these are able to be bias hotter while still sounding very much like a vintage fuzz face.

Yarp!
Newmarket, as with Mullard, produced a whole heap of germanium devices for various different roles and applications. Some being cool for fuzz boxes, others not so much. Specification wise NKT281 is a very similar device to the NKT275, at lest in this instance, as in - used in a fuzz box.innerflight wrote: ↑Fri Feb 22, 2019 8:31 pm nerdy question but are there major differences with NKT trannies? like mullards OC75's versus OC81's etc, how do NKT's behave?
The NKT281 has a wider gain range than the NKT275, the 275 is pretty damn low for the most part. You'll just hear nice lift in overall circuit gain with the Haskins when compared to an 'average' stock vintage Fuzz Face with NKT275's under hood.
The Haskins are also biased so they'll take some heat, the gain will stretch out rather than just over biasing and totally crapping out. As they say, some like it hot. Heh.

Would you say these Haskins also have a element of Tonebender 1.5 about them cap?The Captain wrote: ↑Mon Feb 25, 2019 10:02 pmYarp!

Bludgeon faces is a more accurate term.
Remember though, It's germanium Fuzz Face so it ain't no paint stripper. Make it warm, crank the amp, fun times.
