Re: Monacor Fuzzder FS-1
love that little touch of fuzz bass in there too!
on this other one, looks like the board's been messed with...
Curious, can anyone tell why they'd add that resistor...?

I'm guessing that's a 100k from the -1.5v rail to the base of the third transistor. I think I've seen it on some schematics. Possibly fitted by the original builder. It would make the fuzz less gated

Re: Monacor Fuzzder FS-1
Thanks Brad. Well that's promising 'cause i would like mine better if it were less gated.
Could a resistor possibly be added there, if it doesn't have one?
Hey Steve - can you post a shot of your board?

Mostly this I think! Best amplifier I've ever had the pleasure of abusing...psycho*daisies wrote:I'm guessing your ES-335 and Miles Platting have something to do with it.
Yes mine has the resistor as well, and slight difference in the circuit board trace. Laundromat said that he didn't mod it in any way when I bought it and the solder seems old and untinkered with. It is fuzzier than a FZ-1A even with single coils but I think vintage stylee humbuckers give a thicker, clottier sort of fuzz which thins out and gets buzzier and smoothly gated with guitar volume knob reductions.
The fuzz is totally usable at all settings on the dial but as I mentioned earlier when the fuzz is at a minimum it attenuates the high frequencies of the bypass signal which then return in a slightly raggedy but good way when the fuzz pot is increased. What's with that? I believe you have one of these too Jerms? Does yours do that as well and do you know why it does it? I've always wondered why the Maestros slightly attenuate the bypass signal since there's no buffer and guessed (likely incorrectly) that the input cap works like a passive high frequencies to ground sort of thing but this is weird... no intention of 'fixing' it though - sounds too badass!
Here's a pic of the board anyway, presumable the same as Jim's one?

Oops, thanks for that! Thought it was a silicon one!jerms wrote:sounds killer waveclipper!!!!! these are germanium FZ-1A clones IIRC!! got one of these at home too! plus a sekova wedge with a similar circuit too i think..... we should do a japanese FZ shootout when i get home!!!!!
Oh hell yes - Japanese FZ face of ftw!!
