Didn't want to be one of those twats that starts a thread for a simple question, so thought I'd try my luck posting this here...
Captain, oh dear sir, is there any chance whatsoever you might have information logged somewhere regarding what transistors you used in different batches over the years?
I'm wondering, in particular, about the November 2007 batch of Mk II Professionals that went to Tommy's Guitar Shop. I bought one new from that batch for $350 and I swear it was the best Mk II I'd ever heard. I foolishly sold it a year later to raise funds for I-can't-remember-what and it remains one of my great gear regrets. Seriously, that sound has been haunting me for years now, no Mk II I've tried since has come close. In an old e-mail from Tommy it was vaguely suggested they'd have either 71's or 75's (and one 'wild card', an 81D). I am like 75% certain it was the 71's in mine, but want to know for certain so that I can track one down as, again, the sound was truly magical- insanely thick and gainy, but not gated.

The old notes are pretty vague but looks like it was either units #193 and #194 (Philips OC75) or #217 through #219 (Valvo OC71). Either which way it's the trim pot (ugh!) version of the Pro MKII. I would imagine most of the '75 loaded trimmer MKII's would get you there being as the adjustable bias does allow for that extra bit of gain.sicko wrote: I'm wondering, in particular, about the November 2007 batch of Mk II Professionals that went to Tommy's Guitar Shop...

Just scored the Ram Head, that puts me in the 10 club, not as many as as some but they're all pretty special to me
