Great work guys!
But I'm puzzled why people have assumed it's a US-designed pre-Buzzaround, rather than a US/Baldwin take on the pre-Baldwin UK design. The first Buzzarounds probably pre-dated the Baldwin takeover, and had only 2 knobs - the new 3 knob Baldwin-Burns version was announced in Nov '66 in Beat Instrumental as "a fresh version of the existing Buzz-Around and incorporates a special sustain effect" .
My guess is that icecreamer's Buzz is a protootype for or iteration of the 'new improved' Buzzaround, developed by Baldwin, but building on elements of the original Burns Buzzaround. All fuzzes were inspired by the FZ-1 one way or another - I think the orig 2-knob Buzz could have started it's life a 3V Fuzztone derivative...

Handmade, high-impact, great-looking radical queer germanium fuzz. A different approach to 1960s-inspired fuzz pedals, no clones, check them out at https://goodfuzzysounds.com or on YouTube https://tinyurl.com/GFS-YT

The guy Mark bought the pedal from, provided a letter from the original owner who claims the pedal was built for him at the Cincinatti Baldwin plant in 1967.

it's clearly made in the US, and i have no reason to question who made it, but where it fits in the evolution of the Buzzaround we know and love is unknown, since the Burns Buzzaround probably predates the Baldwin taekeover in 1965 - that's all I'm saying. It's different and a very cool unique piece, but we can't jump to conclusions.changeling wrote:The guy Mark bought the pedal from, provided a letter from the original owner who claims the pedal was built for him at the Cincinatti Baldwin plant in 1967.

He may have very well gotten the year wrong. I was just pointing out that the guy who "claims" to be the original owner states that it is a Buzzaround, built in 67'- or at least assembled in 67'. For all we know, it could be a 3V proto from earlier days, put in a case in 67'- but I think the components used in the build point in a different direction. But, I don't really have enough experience or knowledge to speculate about such things- others here, do. At this point, nothing has been verified, it's just the info that was provided by the seller...

It is super cool to have stepped onto a new rung on the Buzzaround ladder. It was hard for me to accept as authentic until Jimmy B and the builders traced the circuit. I really have no idea where GranDad sits on the timeline. Being relatively new to fuzz, I certainly am confused to why fate brought it unto me. Still, it's not going nowhere but it would be great to have the "pre/post" debate while anyone with any knowledge still exists. I emailed Johnny Arksund, he was attentive to the 3v power......

Did a run of three of these. Very awesome sounds. Very close to standard Buzzaround, but with clearer, FZ-1-esque trebles.
