To be honest, there are very limited clips of the rare Supa MkI circuit, apart from Philip's stuff (which sounds incredible). There aren't a whole lot of examples to go by.

As well as that, it seems to be very sensitive to the guitar/amp used. I've heard one or two other clips where it sounded very trebly indeed and couldn't understand if that is just the nature of the circuit. Probably just need to buy one and hear it for myself!
In all seriousness, within reason any fuzzy fuzz will get you close, just a case of finding a balance between the guitar, amp, pedal and using it with the right playing approach.

Imo, the gear is easiest part of this... John's playing, ferk, good luck with that. :badteeth: :oldlol: :hihi:

I fucking love this (probably same gear), but find it hard to replicate just because the playing is so odd and out there.

And yes, John McLaughlin is just one of a kind. I love pretty much everything he did with Miles Davis and Mahavishnu Orchestra. Not such a fan of his tones nowadays but he is still lightning on that guitar.

So.... I bought a stingray from his batch of 10 a few years back. I made a demo or 2 plus played it with my Les Paul. It just seemed to fit with that guitar. Around the time I joined here and before you know it I'd a handful of Tonebenders and on a day to day would play my strat, LP and Tele.
The stingray at some point got sold to laser vampire to raise funds probably for something else.
I'd also just acquired the castledine custom made renegade at the time so probably had to shift some stuff.
All these years on and I'm mainly 99.9% of the time a les Paul player. So I contacted Stu and asked could he build me a stingray deluxe pedal. One which can be boosted for more gain.
He said Antti uses the Stingray in his fuzzface builds and he'd forgot Antti got there first a few years back and had started making them again.
So I wanted something that still sat with that Stingray theme... enter the Mantaray! Treble booster into Vox Tonebender.
As we know Stus original differs to other Vox TBs as it's an early one and has more bottom end and less rasp. More fuzz facey. I sold the DAM chicken coop as I was using the germanium side to boost my Cornell fuzz face (as recommended by Stella blues ) to fund it.
Stu also used the same transistors that he has in his original I believe!
Knobs, colour, name and switches my idea. Guts and design - Stus. That Mantaray looks sick!! Kudos to stu.
