Kimberly Buzz Box & Volume Expander (196?) [DATA DUMP]

Post by rafmax »

Little wooden box with a few components inside...
No marks on transistors, and one CTS pot dated 33rd week of 1961 doesn't help much dating this... Have any clue ? I am sure you have :listening:

This circuit is interesting! It's different than the Conrad & Umi Buzz Box and Volume Expander, though they share the same name. If you look close it has two clipping diodes.

it is the same as the audio designs fuzzound.

me, jrod and CRR reverse engineered one of them recently based on ebay pics of the audio designs fuzzound.
it led to some interesting variants, as we sorted out the possible components.

i can list you components if you want, and we do have a schematic worked up.

the circuit is always active... the switch bypasses the volume control for a "boost". nice sounding circuit,
a little more percolatorish than the umi, most likely cuz of the diode clipper at the end of the circuit.

attached is the schematic i think.... i have a folder full of variants, but this seems to be what we settled on when all was said and done.

I think the pot codes were similar as well.
