The SMF was a pretty crazy amp. It would not even turn on unless you had two cabs hooked up to it.
I wonder if Marshall were using spares they had lying around to build pigs. The Park/CMI amp I have is sort of a hodge podge of parts that were assembled on turret board after they stopped hand wired production. The parts and construction do not it neatly into a Marshall timeline but they all date consistently.

i'll bet they made lead and bass and PA versions.... it does look like he totally rebuilt that newer pig he got... no red paint on any of the solder joints...

pretty sure they were all built in 67 the heyday of point to point plexi....1bottlerocket wrote:I wonder if Marshall were using spares they had lying around to build pigs. Yeah, it seems like that. Hmm, given that they were made in '67 I'm guess they would all be shared cathode most likely? So the one with more gain would make sense as a lead model.jerms wrote:i'll bet they made lead and bass and PA versions.... it does look like he totally rebuilt that newer pig he got... no red paint on any of the solder joints...

Maybe, that's a reason they got called the "Pig"?sciencefriction wrote:Interesting that there would be so much variation, given how small the run of amps were. Certainly not unlike Marshall, but still interesting.
Maybe, it stands for "Parts in General"?

I've always seen it associated with Mick Ronson. I don't know if it was stenciled on but I'm pretty sure that's what he called it.jerms wrote:i thought rono nicknamed it the pig..... isn't it stenciled on his head???
