Maybe they were under pressure to produce as many as possible to meet demand for 1As and there was a box of 2N270s lying around? Another scenario could be that they ran out of enclosures from the first run. I've heard of lots of anomalies with anachronistic features on Gibson gtrs, so it's not such a surprise.
Interesting that 5906 has the 2-battery holder also - are the resistor values adjusted at all to match the increased voltage?

I think mine is regular FZ-1A with two batteries bottom (only one battery is connected another not).

ah - i see what you mean.
My earliest FZ1-A (no 7014) has an FZ-1 base too, but on mine there is a 2nd set of rivet holes
IIRC the patent was granted in October '65, that helps to date it.

With a little help from Jim it looks like 49th week of 61 for the vol pot, 19th week of 67 for the attack. All solder joints appear untouched. I'm in the process of uploading pictures to Imgur. Bear with me :errr:

dating details aside this thing fekkin rips. Sadly it'll be for sale soon. sat down to do the budget Saturday afternoon and realized this month has screwed us. add to that my recent purge shit to pay for shit mindset I'm fine letting go of something I'm not playing.
