Mystery Fuzz, please help identify it

Post by DBBlues »

I bought this fuzz the other day on eBay. I realize that it might be a DIY job. I'm wondering if you guys can help me figure out if it was DIY or a kit or manufactured in some way. As far as I can tell, the transistor that I can see has no letters or numbers on it. Thankfully, the thing sounds great, like an angry 60s silicon fuzz to my ears.

Here's a photo of the transistor that I can see.
It sounds something like a silicon Fuzzrite. It has some cool buzz and storm to it.

Looks a little like a home made Fuzztone FZ-1B to me.

That's interesting, I was going to say that it also sounded a bit like an FZ-1B.

I'm concluding, especially with that roughly cut board, that it was a home-brew, and that it is old. Thanks for the help so far.
