Captain -

"The Mesa Boogie of fuzz pedals" Back in 2007 I was fortunate to come in contact with a Baldwin Burns Buzzaround, the collector kindly enough offer me the loan wrote the above quoted text in a correspondence. It made little to no sense to me until I actually heard the pedal in action. Subtle, demure and timid it is not. The tonal complexity and the magnitude of the available distortion is nothing short of exhilarating. In 2008 I was given another highly generous offer to inspect a further vintage Buzzaround. The research conducted on these two pieces gave birth to the D*A*M Fuzzaround in August 2008. The project consisted of approx 50 pieces that were sold exclusively via the D*A*M forum.

9 years later - The D*A*M Buzztronix ZZ.1. A further four vintage pieces studied and scrutinized, the understanding of the process further expanded. That research condensed absorbed then juiced to extract this new incarnation. The Buzztronix is a premium quality compact reproduction created using a faithful construction style and technique. At the core of the circuit are three British made NKT (Newmarket Transistors Ltd.) germanium devices. These components are diligently tested for continuity, superior performance and a honest conveyance of the nostalgic brutality that is the Baldwin Burns Buzzaround.

Captain -

Dizzytron. What's it? A sonic replication the the Elka Dizzytone - the evil twin bastard spawn to the Buzzaround. Does what? Horrible terrible things that make grown men cry. Super aggressive, not subtle; not dynamic, bass heavy like a mother fucker - a John Deere 9620R plowing a field full of Claymore's, Sue Nero doing explicit things to H.R Giger's Alien, Ed Gein showing your kids how to make balloon animals, and so on. You get the point. It's exciting and a little bit dangerous, very much like the Buzzaround but minus any common decency or etiquette.

Captain -

In 2004 I built and pedal called the Space Oddity. It was a two-in-one Tone Bender that simplicity switched from one Tone Bender circuit type to the next, namely a Vox type to a Professional MKII. It was quite crudely assembled but it did what it said on the tin. Advance in time to 2017 and evolution presents the D*A*M Fuzztron ZZ.3. Basically the same concept but constructed by more mature brain cells.
The ZZ.3 is in fact a three-way Tone Bender. It is able to switch from the Vox type, the MKI.5 and the Professional MKII. The unit contains a separate circuit board for each circuit type. Each switch setting is totally isolated from the next so no interference can occur between either circuit. The marker on the 'mode selector' control dial moves the span of the word 'FUZZ', with the beginning of the word being the Vox setting, the end of the word being the Pro MKII. This being a simple and tidy way of clarifying the switch selection rather than overly cluttering the face of the pedal.
Once a circuit or mode is selected the ZZ.3 then operates as that pedal. The overall output of the ZZ.3 in any mode setting is fractionally greater than you would find in its vintage counterparts, but only very slightly so, the tones contained within are tuned for the vintage connoisseur rather than being overly tweaked or modified modern versions thereof.

Sublime stuff from The Captain. The Tron series has been imaginative and beautifully executed stuff so far. Let’s hope the zz line runs deep.

No demos as yet but I don't mind sending mine up the coast if Philip wants to do the honours

What's great with the Fuzztron is it's not like three separate pedals, the Captain has tuned the circuits so it's like one pedal, seamless switching between the different circuits which acts like you're adding gain rather than engaging a different pedal.....can't speak for the others but mine is quite a beefy affair through all the modes, quite midrangey but still raw in 66 mode, a big fat 1.5 which gives a Fuzz Face a serious run for its money to a smooth MKII that just soars for lead lines. Excellent stuff

The One That Started it All... :captain:

"This circuit is a little different to a stock Buzzaround. You can still nail those Crimson tones with ease
but this Buzzotron circuit will give you a little extra extension of frequency range and a little more of a
tailored fuzz tone. The hand selected original transistors will have very much the same character and
tone of the original pedal. Giving you great tonal break-up & control from truly ear splitting high gain
to garagey overblown decay!" ~The Captain
