Doyle from the Misfits sold his original Distortion + on eBay many many moons ago and surely wins the prize for the most fucked up looking example. Heh.

I know Tym at Tym Guitars makes/has made a bunch of Distortion + variations, including three different Bob Mould signature pedals (The St Paul, Beauty and Ruin, Sky Patch) and two different Ed Kuepper/Saints boxes! Then there's a bunch of different "Tymexar" boxes.
Plenty of blog pots from him but maybe start here: https://tymguitars.com.au/blogs/blog/th ... distortion

Absolutely love the MXR D+. It has that early '70's arena rock band grind. I would also recommend the Ross Distortion. They sound very close to each other but the Ross has much more volume on tap than the D+ does. The Ross on the far left was the very first pedal I bought in '79. When I use the D+ I put it in the Boss LS2 loop. The LS2 has a volume knob that gives the D+ the extra output it really needs. You can see the settings I use on them...Output nearly all the way up and Distortion just a little bit turned up.

This is the Ross Distortion from '78. Where it says Output instead of Level.
This is the one from '79. It has one more part than the previous year.
