Here's a few more-

Ruins- Mandala 2000/ Live in Guang Zhou
Fucking incredible they can do this shit live!!! :shocked2:  :shocked2:  Yoshida Tatsuya is an unbelievable player. I can't imagine living this music 24-7. :headpop:

Trans Am- What day is it tonight?
This band kicks ass live; the show at the Empty Bottle in Chicago a few years ago motivated me to do much in the following months. Buy the vinyl and play it loud.

How about jazz, fusion, or indian classical music? Far too many examples, but right away Herbie Hancock's live version of "Butterfly," on Flood, comes to mind.

Everything on the live Waiting For Columbus album surpasses the studio versions. The Old Grey Whistle Test tracks are better too.

This makes sense - I've seen the OGW performance and thought it was great... love the 70s strats as well, they look and sound very cool indeed! But when I checked out some of their recorded stuff I was pretty disappointed to say the least.

Will have to listen to the live album - and plenty of other stuff mentioned here I've not heard of before!

Also, FM's green manalishi from the Boston Tea Party performances. I don't actually consider this better than the amazing studio track - I consider them both excellent and on a par! I think during the extended, improvised ending Peter Green plays some kind of baritone guitar.

These two get me every time.

The Joy Division BBC sessions is a really really amazing live album and I prefer some of the tunes on there to the album verisons. Damn, I love that record!!! Also, there is the most amazing version of Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters doing the song "Actual Proof" from their album "Thrust" on this live Japanese album called "The Flood." Done with an acoustic piano instead of synthesizers/rhodes...killer!
