I love Donovan, this song, the arrangement and especially the little snippets of guitar with it's spikey 'clean' and blooming fuzz.

Fun House does it for me, I think Ron was playing a strat through a Fuzz Face on this album? Would love to be confirmed/corrected... also one of my favourite recorded bass tones. Dave Alexander kicks arse

Robert Fripp's tone on this album and, in particular, this song still floors me.
I want it louder. Want power.

Completely zoned out on the way home from work last Friday when it hit me: weezer's 'blue' album if you take away everything but the guitar(s) has the heaviest doomiest most saturated thickfreakness guitar tone. Great album start to finish - a goddamn classic - but it never once dawned on me to ignore all and concentrate only on Rivers and Brian's sound. Hats off to those two

“Eruption”
From: ‘Van Halen’ (1978)
Modern rock guitar playing can be divided into two main periods: B.E. (Before Eruption) and A.E. (After Eruption). It would be virtually impossible to overstate the influence of the piece, which popularized two-handed tapping and inspired generations of imitators. The instrumental is an amalgam of all of Van Halen’s groundbreaking techniques, quoting from classical etudes and featuring rapid flutter picking, jaw-dropping fingertapping runs, echo and harmonic effects. Ironically, Eddie was dissatisfied with his performance, feeling he could have done it better.

"If you have a great-sounding guitar that's a quality instrument and a good amp,
and you know how to make the guitar talk, that's the key. It starts with the guitar
and knowing what it should sound and feel like."
