This does the trick better than anything else. The key is the +20 db clean boost available on two separate loops. Or, if you really want to get fancy and you run multiple channels...turn the boost either above or below unity so you get a strong or subtle effect either over or under your clean channel. Just run the effect out to the second channel instead of back into the loop. It is a Swiss Army pedal.

Boss LS-2 is a good call and cheap
but if you want a boost pedal to add to a loop
try an MXR micro amp or a DOD Bi-Fet pedal
you'll get all the boost you need
both can be found cheap s/hand
but there are loads out there similar :tu:

I'm a little late to the party but I use a buffered FX loop. I used a LS-2 for a long time and then I had a guy make me a custom tube buffered loop with send/return settings and it works wonders.
