YESSSSSS

The extra heavy (1.2mm) Pyramids are the best I've used in years

My favourite pick is the Red Bear Guthrie Govan signature pick. Ok it’s dear as fuck for a pick but it has a serrated top edge that you can use to get some cool noises out of when you saw through the strings, also have a gypsy jazz gauge red bear that’s thick as fuck and glides through strings like butter, I’m not sure what they’re made off but they don’t ‘chirp’ like some picks do with fuzz

Here’s a pic of the Guthrie where you can see the top edge

Herco Flex 75's (Heavy). Been using them ever since 1978.
I tried some other brands from time to time, but settled on nylon as my preference.
Great deals with: Stu, Graham, Sickle, Devnulljp, SteveG, peps1, paine, fuzzface6669, jetofuj, sciencefriction, jerms, rafmax, Bigfoot2000, whiskeyfuneral, monolithfuzz.

I’m back to my old stand by, the little green .88mm Tortex. Just easier to use than nylon for me. Can’t get used to the flex. I do like the softer attack on the Tortex, once the sharp tip wears down.

Some cool and interesting choices around here! Never seen some of these picks. With the amount of choices, it’s amazing anyone gets into the pick business.

For about 10 years I used nothing but thin small jazz teardrop picks, usually Clayton .50 or .63 mm.

But then I was having some drinks with a friend, and the only other person in the bar was the bartender who is also a guitarist, and after a while we all whipped out our picks. (Good thing to say when people are eavesdropping.) It ended up that my friend gave me a Dunlop 205 (much thicker teardrop with a beveled edge and feather weight), and then I picked up some Pickboy Jazz 1.00 and 1.20 mm larger picks. They are kind of expensive, made in Japan with I think some graphite mixed in the nylon or something. But they last a very long time. Now those are my usuals. My sound is a bit different with them as I can dig in more, and I don't get a sort of flappy thing in the attack, but they are nearly as crisp as the thin picks.

It is a tradeoff but not a painful one. These don't have the same problems as normal big picks where there is a resonant midrange thunk on every attack and about one out of every ten attacks seems to be fluffed and not like the others no matter what I do to avoid it. And being thicker I have an easier time holding on to these when I do combination picking. I don't feel like I have to use energy pinching them.
