Boss OC-2 Ocatver Help

Post by 1bottlerocket »

Hi all,

I have been using my Boss OC-2 Octaver (not the Octave version) and I am having trouble with the tracking on the low E string. There is a lot of dropping out, sputtering and skipping. Is this something that is inherent to the design or are there some settings that can help with this?

I have been trying different setting some worse than others but the tracking is still an issue. I have been staying on the neck pickup of my strat and playing single note runs. I have had to modify my playing a lot to make it sound good overall and I have gotten to the point where 90% of the octave tones are fine now. It is just the low E where I am still having a lot of trouble.

Any comments or suggestions are welcome. I have been thinking about selling it and trying a Foxrox Octron.

Boost the signal going in to the pedal a bit?

That seems about normal with any analog octave pedal. OC-2 still tracks better than most.

Try a little compression before it. You also may need to alter your playing technique slightly. Don't let the low E string ring out as much.

Thanks guys. Yes, I have had to clean up my technique to get things sounding right. I exchanged a couple messages with Dave Fox and sent me a short video and this also helped. I think I am going to sell the Boss and go with an Octron moving forward. I never thought about compression I am going to give that a go.

As with Philip suggesting a bit of a boost, compression adds a little stability.

Very normal with the Boss, part of it’s “charm”. Compression can help as mentioned, but it detracts a bit from the inherent fatness of the sound. I had the Octron, and although it tracks a little better, it’s not as fat/organic as the Boss.

Thanks again for the help and suggestions. I am going to try some compression and see how that goes.

Will do. It will probably be Wednesday before I am able to get to it.

I've found the low E guitar note range are hard for any octave pedal to easily track. I also find that backing off the tone knob helps the tracking be more stable. Compression is usually the best bet, overall.

This thread made me break these out today!
