The "what are you reading?" thread.
This was inspired by the fact that the beautiful Pigdog MkI that pothole has was dubbed "brooklands green" and the book I'm in the midst of makes heavy reference to the racetrack. (It was also recommended by thom yorke ) so it kinda fits here lol.
It's:
Kingdom Come by J.G. Ballard
its been pretty bad ass so far, kinda hard to explain exactly in any kind of concise manner, but its set in England (apparently the London suburbs along the M-25 but i have never been to that side of the pond so I cant really relate geographically or pretend to know what im talking about) and is about an advertising man whos father is shot in a brooklands shopping mall and hes trying to figure out why. commentary on consumerism is pretty much the point. a little slow to start, but gets good. i like the writing style. Interesting but not super fancy or dense. recommended thus far.
what have you been reading?

I've read most of Kesey's stuff and this is by far my favorite. I really liked the storyline and the shifts in perspective are great. Heavy!AGuitarPlayer wrote:I've been working on Ken Kesey's Sometimes a Great Notion. Does not have the notoriety of Cuckoo's Nest, but is really excellent so far.

'Trapped in a scene' by Ian Glaster, a book about the 80s hardcore/grindcore scene in the Uk. Pretty good stuff, and I even know quite a few folk in the book.
Also 'our band could be your life' by Michael Azzerad. It was decent enough until I read the chapter on Mudhoney, where the author kind of sneers at them as one-hit-wonders. Fuckin arsehole.

Best book ever for a skinny, white guy on the bus to read.
"You go sister!"
I found it when I was clearing out an old bookshelf, I kinda remember being forced to read it at university and thought at the time it was actually fun to read. So I figured I'd re-read it. Lots of cool stuff about black, lesbian, intellectual communes in the States.
