Fuzz Face Wah Wah mismatch fix
I love a good fuzz face but they do not interact well with a Wah. I could put the wah after the Fuzz, but I don't like the sound. I know jimi solved the problem. Some say it was when he switched to Silicon Fuzz Faces but others say that both those pedals have extremely low input impedance and a typical wah needs to drive a high impedance load.
So I could build a jfet buffer....Lame!
I'm looking to go old school, how about a matching transformer?
Anyone else solved this problem and how did you do it?
Thanks you in advance

I dunno, I use the FOXROX wah retro fit on all mine and they rock! Absolutely ZERO effect to your tone! All it does is makes your wah work with absolutely ANY fuzz.

+1, Chris has it right.
You can also adjust the volume of the buffer with the Foxrox,
which will balance the level coming out of the wah.

What gets me is all the tweaking,

I Have heard good things about the FoxRox. I'm just looking for an old school approach especially something like Roger Mayer may have done to Hendrix's Fuzz and or Wah Wah. I'm almost thinking that Jimi's Fuzzes were not Fuzz Faces at all after a certain point and were Mayer designs and that might be why they worked so well with the way.

Another vote for the foxrox...or get a Teese (which has a foxrox built in).
I've heard Hendrix ive recordings where he gets that horrible impedance mismatch squeal thing like the rest of us.
I'm guessing Roger Mayer built some kind of buffer for him...although he did also use the wah after the fuzzface at least some of the time.

Re: Fuzz Face Wah Wah mismatch fix
I might have to break down and buy a Fox Rox but I would sure like to find an old school solution to this for more of that sweet Hendrix vibe. I've been listening to Voodoo Child (Slight Return) and I"m pretty sure that Jimi used a wah before and after his fuzz for the different textures he got.
I really dig his live tone though especially his "Berkley" Wah sound. I'm thinking that there may have been a buffer on the Wah because if you listen to the first part of the "jimi Plays Berkley" were he is doing some really cool wah stuff his tone is very distorted but as soon as he kicks his wah off it goes clean. A normal wah should not overdrive your amp that much. I think your right Roger built a buffer into his wah. Now to figure out the schematic for that.

A buffer is an old-skool device, not really a modern trick or anything.
I'm not saying Mayer did that in Hendrix's pedal or not,
but it's certainly something he would have had at his disposal to do.

O Ya I know buffers are old I just meant I wanted to not used modern parts like Jfets for the buffer.
If I could just figure out what Roger Mayer was doing that would be so cool. I'm guessing some kind of wah mod, but there is not a whole lot of opertunity to get a look at one of jimi's wahs.

Problem Solved
I brewed up a little circuit that did the trick.
