Vintage Guitars with built in fuzz

That isn't the Vox fuzz circuit, it's the one in the Tokai guitar.

I found some photos of the Vox guitar circuits, but none is clear enough to determine what the distortion circuit is. To me, it sounds too heavy to be the Distortion Booster.

Some are the treble/bass boost, but these shots are of the fuzz and booster from a Vox (bought off e-bay from a gutted guitar).

This one appears to be a distortion booster circuit. The one that Stu posted is something different.

Hmm, so it is the Distortion Booster after all. It sounds better in those clips than I remembered.

Here's another photo of that guitar. The third circuit from left is clearly the wah, and the one on the far right ("1351") appears to be the Treble/Bass booster (it has two 0.22µF caps):

I went through a spell of collecting a few guitars with onboard effects and am writing up a chapter on such for my history - but thought I'd tease with a beauty here....

This is a board from a 1968 Hofner 4571 E2T2 guitar

I do not have one of these models - had to severely trim my Hofner stash - though I do have a very much earlier Hofner full bodied Jazz box - a predecessor to the President with a tortoise shell headstock from the late fifties/early sixties that had some kind of onboard boost currently U/S

The first 4571 modls came in the treble boost & fuzz version but there was another with onboard wah and boost called the soundmix - at one point I was going to send Dave one of each and try to get some funky box made but like so many plans .... there's always another toy gets in the way (of my interests not Dave's!!) sooner or later something will come of it hopefully

I managed to find the guts from one of the treble boost & fuzz models some years ago and sent them up to Dave hoping one day to find some use for them - probably long buried amongst all manner of treasures but I just came across some of my photobucket shots of the board and thought it would be nice to show here

I also have the WEM "Missing Man" Project Guitar with (amongst other effects) the Project IV Fuzz effect onboard - this was the forerunner of the Project V pedal that was issued in tiny numbers and is probably my rarest pedal apart from the odd prototype tonebender version.

Anyway I don't have pics of that guitar to hand but can offer these pics!! Pretty funky I think.
