these are the jumbo tonebender circuit, which is a muff without clipping diodes in the first clipping stage, and the last transistor stage.....Captain_Phildo wrote:
I don't think this one is muff inspired - looks like a three transistor fuzz. Maybe the bridge between the Tone Bender and the Muff?

I was in Macari's yesterday buying a 9v Power Boost and they had just gotten in a batch of blue Bum Fuzz pedals with various coloured graphics and all with germanium transistors.

The Jumbo (Bum circuit) does sound quite unique and not particularity Muff like. At certain settings, it has a cool 3D kinda thing going on that gives the impression you have some clean signal in the mix, making it a superior bass fuzz. It does offer up some pretty decent clean-up and pleasing dynamics to boot. The low end at maximum bass settings is pretty ridiculous to say the least. Brown sound fun.

Well, that is by far the coolest Big Muff style pedal I've ever heard. Not usually a fan of the Big Muff sound, but this BUM seems to have an awful lot of character (and attitude).

This is pretty much a perfect description of the sound of the Bum circuit. The Faustone Fuzz Unit, which is the same circuit and also uses Zetex trannies (ZTX383C at Q1 and Q2 and a ZTX382B at Q3), definitely has the "3D" sound the Captain describes, and the feeling of a mixed clean signal. I'd add that it can almost sound like an octave effect at some settings. Philip's demo has it all in there! The Captain wrote:The Jumbo (Bum circuit) does sound quite unique and not particularity Muff like.
