Hard to tell but it could be a Fuzzrite.

Getting a later Maestro fuzz vibe from it, so perhaps FZ1-b or Super Fuzz?

Thanks for the embed help Horsey! I’ve been listening to samples, I thought fuzz rite too - although this fz1b commercial is the coolest, and definitely sounds like I could cop some tones. I’ve had this fuzz sound in my head for years!

Would a creepy fingers fuzzfight or thunderbird the clutch be the best option?

Not sure If I have seen a fz1b option in today’s builders world..

A quick Google reveals the on-air date for this episode was January 10, 1970. So most likely recorded in late 69.

When they use the tone switch on the fz1s -that too gets closer. But after a few times listening the clip seems a little looser and snarlier than the fz1s

Were they making the maestro fz-1s by 69'? My guess is fuzzrite. Sounds pretty buzzy and thin, fuzzrite can do that for sure. Not familiar enough with the maestro fz-1b (there are several versions...both quite different) but certainly it could be a maestro fuzztone as well? Either I think would cop you the tones quite nicely!

No, I think the FZ-1S was introduced in 71 or 72. The FZ-1B was definitely around in the late 60s, but apart from some speculation in the Curtis Mayfield fuzz thread and another 1B thread, I'm not familiar enough with it either. Still want one though. :hihi:

I'm still going with the standard silicon Fuzzrite. Sounds like the classic "In a Gadda da Vida" sound to me. So yeah, a Thunderbird Clutch would do very nicely.
