Reverend Bizarre's "So Long Suckers." Something about them knowing it would be their last record while they made it confers extra weight and I almost always listen to it all the way through.

Short list of albums where every song stands on its own but also works to create a larger whole:

Bill Fay, The Time of the Last Persecution. May well be the best album ever made.
Eugene McDaniel, Headless Heroes of the Apocalypse
Willie Nelson, Phases and Stages. If you’ve never heard it, you don’t know Willie.
John Phillips, The Wolfking of LA
Serge Gainsbourg, Melody Nelson
Jim Ford, Harlan County
Modern Lovers, Modern Lovers
Curtis Mayfield, Superfly
Beachwood Sparks, Beachwood Sparks
Captain Beefheart, Safe as Milk

Nowhere near the masterpiece of Trout Mask Replica.

This has come up before, but I can’t do Trout Mask. Safe as Milk is the only Beefheart for me.

Ha ha, yes, I remember talkin' about that before.

I still like Lick My Decals Off, Baby better than Safe as Milk though.

Hope you dig it. It’s Willie tracing a relationship breakdown. Side A is from the woman’s POV, side B from the man’s. All linked together. Baroque country soul masterpiece.
