Are there any good sounding recreations of those beauties?

Ghost Effects makes the Warmjet V but i can't vouch for the sound

A buddy of mine compared my Warmjet V to other (later) versions and they did sound all quite different. Just saying that the ghost incarnations do sound different to each other.

The sound can very a lot depending on how the texture and gain bias is set. Between this and the Edge knob you can dial in a wide variety of sound. It's also insanely loud. Unless you can find an original you can't go wrong
