Yeah! Fine grade sanding should be done by end of tomorrow. I forgot what a bitch of a shape SGs are to sand.

Sanding done. Took it up through the grades to 400 grit. Was tempted to stop at 250 but it didn’t feel smooth enough and I could still see scratches on the sides. I’m going for a really natural look so the first coat of clear sanding sealer is on (pics taken before sanding sealer). I’ll cut it back tomorrow and add another coat then cut that back and finish with clear wax.

Just realised, I should probably drill the tuner holes before waxing.

It’s a little more work than I expected but I’m happy with the result so far. It had clearly been sanded with an orbital sander and then finished by sanding across the grain before primer was applied by the last person who painted it :banger: ffs!
At least they had the common sense not to over sand all the contours and horns. It actually still had traces of original finish on the tips of the horns.

Finish complete! Sealed, lightly waxed and buffed to a low gloss. I’ll knock the gloss off the neck when I’m doing the final setup. Should be pretty much complete by the end of the week. Tuners will cover most of the holes/dowels on back of headstock.
