Couple of beautiful examples right there. I get what you mean. I never wanted to like them either because they used to be everywhere (like the D+), so they were not cool enough for me (see also-The Beatles). But I was young and dumb, because, sure as shit, they sound great. It’s really like the Volvo of dirt pedals. Not super sexy, but very good at getting a solid, usable dirt sound. And stackable!
Never as good as a melting el84, but they are fucking awesome!

They’re great pedals. There’s a good reason so many people use them and have copied them. Grab a Strat and a cranked Fender Twin and you can’t go wrong. SRV made me stand up and take notice with Tube Screamers.

If you don’t wanna spend the coin on originals, the AM True Vintage models are quite good. I was late to the party on TS 808s as well. These are great.
