Hey Graham, I've lost a few posts myself until I discovered what is happening. For some reason, the forum will ocasionally decide that you really didn't mean to post. If you hit submit & your post reappears with the ability to hit submit again, it did not go through. Hit submit again and it will work the second time.

Don't feel too bad Graham, that happens to me too. I've started to select all the text in my post and copy it to the clipboard before I post as insurance. At least then I don't have to retype everything cuz it never comes out the same the second time around.

Yeah the Blue meanie is probably the best silicon Fuzz Face I had the pleasure to meet. Certainly the cream of the crop. Ha! I was too thinking the Fuzz Face element was lacking around this place too.
I'd say, the differences mainly sit with the fact the Fuzz Face , especially by the time they were into banging out the silicon models, was very much a unit designed for mass production. I'll say this without little fear that zero attempt was made to pre-select the transistors used within them...as in they pulled two out of a bag or box and soldered them in place. Bam! Job done. If they did have some kind of procedure for gain selecting its was fucked :fu:

The Red Fuzz Face, even though its pretty much part for part the same as the Blue, sounds like 70-80% of vintage silicon Fuzz Face's I've heard. The bias is slightly off so the tone sounds too gated, strangled if you will and lacking in sustain. Most would consider this tone faulty by todays standards. I don't think the clean up of other tonal subtleties were a factor in the Fuzz Faces production back then. As long as it made some kind of fuzzy noise it was good to go.

But aye, my feelings. Mass production caused these inconsistencies. Hence the story's of Mr.Hendrix and others sifting through boxes of them to find the "nice" ones.

I should make some clips of these two babies while they are here. They are two excellent examples of the differences you can expect to find from one Fuzz Face to the next.

Thank you MR G :headpop: for another great post, much appriciated.

when you get a A great fuzz box like DAM Fuzzaround,
it just won't end the fuzz thirst, it will makes you crave for more!!

I been on the Muff Craze for last few weeks :smashed: , and I think I got the muff needs all stright.
and I am 200% happy with germenium fuzzes that Good captain provides here.
So, what I really need are some silicon fuzzes...(muff don't count)

I went and tried out a few Si Fuzzfaces several month ago, but as you said,
I found that there were too much inconsistancy between the pedals that I have given up on them.

I wish the captain can clone your Blue fuzzface...
IF he thinks it's one of THE BEST Si fuzzface... I got to hear it.

I am on the MeatDLX wating list, and I think that will help.

I have analogman's Si fuzzface and it's been really good for me. nice and creamy, but too creamy some times..
I guess that what I am hoping is to find something comes between SI fuzzface and bigmuff.
Silicone Fuzzaround, Supar tonebender, jumbo tonebender???

OK... it's offical... since my MUFF quest ended with Civilwar,
I am going on the SI fuzzface journey. :cthulhu:
(also, I still need to find Superfuzz or Foxx TM type pedal that I can endure.)

One only has to listen to the George Harrison lead guitar solo of "Something" by "The Beatles" to hear how smooth one of those blue BC108 Fuzz Faces can sound.
