Controlled Tone Preamp Schematic

Post by PlumCrazy »

I'm having a hell of a time uploading the schematic as I scanned it and can't convert it into a format that is readable here. So anyone who was following the "Bought It" thread - the schematic for the pedal can be found in the photo album on my Plum Crazy FX Facebook page. The one I looked at had 2N3565s. The cap I missed labeling on Q2 is a 100uf cap and the two on the tone are both .22ufs. I haven't had anyone check it but my turret layout worked and sounded the same. It's a very bassy pedal. Goes from bass to bassier. The one I checked out had had a repair and I can't say it was everything it was out of the factory. All I know is this is what I had in my hands and it worked.

Thanks. That other notation is "1N914-ish" for the diode.

This is almost identical to the SRS EQ Exciter. Its bassy too but it has less filtering in the treble. The Seamoon has really big caps across the base and collector of Q1 and 2. That .1uf is HUGE. The SRS only has a .047uf across Q2's base and collector which is still really big. Even after that and the midscoop section it still has a lot of gain.
Also are you sure the distortion and tone filter values aren't swapped? 10K is too low to be a useful gain control and 500K is definitely more than is needed for the tone control. The SRS uses 10K on the filter.

The tone control works very similarly to the EQ Exciter.
The fuzz isn't nearly as heavy or gainy(?) though.
It's more like a low gain big muff.
Oh, DB? That's just slang for Dandy Big muff collector.

I was told it had a repair so I can't say for sure. I think I copied it as it was and the Gain control is actually pretty effective in controlling the saturation. It is sure loud, though - and heavy/bassy.
