Agree with Doc here. If you don't trust the local tech, buy a soldering iron (nothing fancy - the cheap ones work fine on small jobs like this) and give it a go. As long as you take your time and are careful, you can't really go wrong. Always a handy thing to have lying around.

Proced with caution, years ago I've fucked up various things having a go at soldering.

I do think I might give it a shot on my own as it is indeed a necessary skill, but will definitely do a bit of practicing first on some bits I have lying around.

My dad taught me how to solder when I was 10. He gave me a non-functioning 70s stereo receiver, showed me the process (tin the tip of the iron with solder, heat the junction of the board/component until the solder flows, 1-2 sec) and let me go at it all afternoon until I could do it cleanly.

I'm sure there are some great tutorials on youtube.

Yeah there’s plenty of stuff on YouTube.
Considering I went to a all boys school I don’t remember learning jack shit to do with this sort of stuff.
Up until a few years back I was paying local guitar shops £70 to change pickups and fit pots etc. Taking guitar speakers to my dads house to solder them in for me.
I attempted the speakers myself a few years back and took it slow. ... well it might not have looked all that pretty but it worked.
Since I’ve gutted guitars and fitted pickups, caps, pots, jacks and switches.

It’s saved me a lot of money!

I might give it another try, Sola MKI should be an ok tester, aye?

Good luck with the soldering, sure you'll be fine and making a fuzzy noise with it in no time.

Edit: I remember managing to fit and solder a new jack for my Squier VI.
