I know on mine the neck actually butts up to the body in the bottom of the neck pocket. I think they squared the tenon off and the back angle of the neck means that there’s a gap at the top. I assume your 63 will be the same. Try putting a feeler gauge or something in there to check.

Final clear coat done. No runs or dust but a little orange peel that will polish out ok. Black headstock lacquer and new Gibson logo will go on in a couple of days.

Do you sand the clear coats with wet dry before you buff?

Colour looks awesome mate. Will look great when it’s all back together.

I think I’ll need to. The orange peel will flatten a little once it’s dried so I’ll check it tomorrow but it’s going to need some sanding. It’s pretty flat so I’ll probably start at 800 or 1000 and work up to 7000. Don’t want to over sand as the colour is just how I want it and it’ll get less green if I take too much clear off. I won’t buff to a super high gloss because the finish will look too new with the vintage hardware. I left some dents in the wood rather than filling because I want to see the history of the guitar. It’ll be a fine balance getting it looking good but not too new.
