1981 Big Box Rat - finally got the green caps though to replace the polly boxes, and some germanium diodes (1N34A) for a little clipping mod

Did you borrow the '81 Big Box Rat from Graham?
Nope, it based on Jerms 1978 Big Box Rat (same PCB used in 1978/79-1981)

Good list of differences here

So then the EQ knob has a different taper (aka, the Tone Knob model).
I had sold Graham a really nice sounding Big Box Rat from '81. A filter knob model.
I like that version a lot, at least as good as the Tone Knob to me, tho' I've never heard the earliest ones (like jermsies).
How are the Ge diodes workin' for ya'?
A little softer crunch?
What gets me is all the tweaking,

the tone knobs work backward from the filter knob ones, or like a regular tone control with it getting brighter as you roll the control to the right.... the first year tone knobs ones have all tantalum caps instead of electrolytics too......

I'm so envious of you all. I don't know the difference between a cap and resistor, no clue what anything does...but damn it looks like a blast to build stuff. I have the anal retentiveness and attention to detail and patience to see myself really getting into builds and churning out quality stuff in the name of love. But, I just don't know the first thing about circuits...much less how to use a soldering iron. Hell, the one time I tried to use a wood burning iron in 1983, I ended up burning my friend's sister's hand made cabbage patch doll...right through the cheek (I was winding up the cord while the iron was still hot and bumped into the doll, melted into the face like a hot poker into butter).

Are those SFT transistors, John?
Never argue with an idiot, they bring you down to their level and beat you with experience

Right now i'm starting a MKI build... and i'm pretty bloody excited about it! The only problem is the trannies, does anyone know a good source for OC75's and better than that reveal it to me :hihi:

I thought about Small Bear, just looking for alternatives. And aren't they audited for the MKII circuit?

They are BC109s 99% of what I build is silicon. For now.
