Welcome Rob/Slamo! The RR10 is by far my favorite RM booster.
I wish I had a local shop as ace as Tommy's

Thank you for the welcome daCod. I just became a Fuzz Freak and I am sick with it! :help: I blame it on Tommy's Guitar Shop and I thank them for it! It took a few decades but there is not time like the present. :tu:

Hi - First time post here..

I've been on the waiting list for a rooster for a long time, and the day has finally come where I can place the pre-order. I have a choice of different transistors for the Rooster, but since I never actually played a Rooster (or similar HQ treble-booster) I find it really difficult to choose. My choices are:

1) oc78
2) oc42
3) oc141

I run a pretty clean sound on my amp and crank it just to the point of break, but not into a soaring lead. Think a 60ies west coast psychedelic sound, or Stacy Sutherland-ish. You can hear my basic sound here if it helps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhihWnbJiqM

I want to use the rooster for solo boosts, but as you can probably guess I like the tone to be relatively transparent and not too compressed. Sort of like a good Tone Bender with the volume rolled back. Also, I would like to use it for getting some nasty 60ies Beatles-esque trebley guitars in recording and so on. Which of the trannies would you say fits this description the best?

Does the rooster 'clean up' at all like a fuzz when you roll off the volume of the guitar? Is there a difference to how well the different trannies clean up?

Thanks a lot!

I'm curious about the transistors too. We're OC44's used in the first RR's? Are there other transistors that people like better than others in he RR?

Just about any germanium can be used in a booster some work better then others. My favorite recently is the OC141 or OC140 that's in my RR-10

So the silicon ones have a "harder" feel to them?

FWIW, I'm partial to the OC44 (always liked the description of it sounding like a tiny gnome frying eggs) and the OC71/2 in a Rooster.

This my fave by far (OC71)

But this was my first Rooster with a CV7112 (which is OC140 I think)

Same as the Red Baron -- quite pronounced mids

I had an early RR with an AC176 that was wicked smaht. Less gainy but very sweet sounding.

Then there's the AC128 face ripper offer. Holy crap, that thing had a lot of gain.
