Got a Sonic Titan in the way and just wondered where you guys put yours in your signal path?

What else is on the path?

Generally, the old Fuzz/OD/Dist first rule applies, but experiment and see what works for you.

It sounds great before my Sola MKII, kickstarting it up a notch or two, so do experiment. In fact I'm pretty sure Conan used his in front of his Meathead deluxe.

I've been playing around with my Titan's position and I think I've got it in a nice place. Not had it long, but enough time to really get the basics down. It's a very musical and useful pedal.

So far my Chain is GUITAR -> Peterson Strobostomp (tuner) -> Kingsley Jester (tube overdrive) -> D*A*M Drag'n'Fly (hybrid fuzz) -> D*A*M Sonic Titan (power amp distortion) -> Paul C. Timmy (Transparent Boost/Overdrive) -> Badgerplex Pre-Vintage (Echoplex Preamp) -> AMP

What I've found is that the Sonic Titan hits the other overdrives and fuzzes so hard and makes them to mushy. Probably because there is a noticeable boost above unity very early on in the volume pot's taper and you really have to crank that volume to get the power section to distort. It's a loud pedal, it made my Deluxe Reverb nearly burst my eardrums on 2 with the volume maxed. Where the Sonic titan really shines is making other forms of distortion explode with harmonic madness and sustain when you place it later in the chain. Any good fuzz into a Sonic Titan is just amazing. Play on your neck pickup with the tone rolled off with a fuzz and drive maxed (that control adds some really cool sustain and compression) and you have a synth. Lay a guitar flat and it plays like a keyboard, IMMENSE! It even makes my Kingsley Jester sound even fatter and it's about as fat as a pedal gets (best low gain overdrive ever) and being place afterward means it doesn't allow things to get messy like when it's placed in front.

I have placed the Timmy and Badgerplex pedals after then Sonic Titan because I think they work well EQing the Sonic Titan and gives more flexibility then the pedal's own tone control. The Sonic Titan is voiced really well and I tend to have the Drive and Tone settings maxed or almost maxed to get the most out of the pedal. Both the Timmy and the Badgerplex have a cool effect on note definition and high end sparkle when placed behind distortion pedals. The additional Treble and Bass cut features of the Timmy also help roll of a slight about of the Sonic Titan's brightness. I use Fender amps that are naturally very bright because I like that kinda sound, so having the options to roll off a little doesn't hurt. It doesn't hurt to have the Timmy's volume control ready to attenuate the Sonic Titan if I'm raising its volume knob beyond unity.

Essentially my pedal chain is broken down into a 3 main sounds. Firstly a traditional Bluesy overdriven sound from the tube overdrive and tone sweeteners at the end of the chain. Then a straight out fuzzy garage sound from the fuzz and sweeteners. Finally an over the top ubah sustaining bassy sound with the fuzz slamming into the Sonic Titan. I tend not to stack too many pedals at once because after a while I find effects can smoother each other.

Anyway it's a porno pedal and it loves fuzz. Fuzz into Titan so much fun to be had.
