for years, i have attributed the guitar part on this to jj cale. my brother tim told me just a few weeks ago that it was a slide player named mac gayden. at least i nailed the amp. ( been saying forever it sounds like a deluxe to me, they way the mids react)

here's what JJ himself says about the song:
"This was done with an Acetone electric drummer. The rhythm
guitar is my Harmony tuned to the key of F#. Bass was
overdubbed by Carl Radle after the rhythm guitar and Acetone
tracks were put down. Mac Gayden overdubbed slide wah-wah
using a Lincoln guitar, a Japanese made Les Paul copy, and a
Maestro Boomerang pedal through a Fender Deluxe Amplifier. Mac
played this cut with his guitar laying on his lap, steel
guitar style. This was an idea he picked up while playing with
Weldon Myrick, a Nashville steel guitarist. It gives a cleaner
sound."

^ Oh, yeah - Mac Gayden was a MAJOR studio player around Nashville around the "Blonde on Blonde" era. He also wrote "Everlasting Love". He was in a couple of Nashville "supergroups", Area 615 and Barefoot Jerry, that were both really good. No wah on this, but check it:

He popped up everywhere. Does great guitar on this Larry Jon Wilson track, using his "slide-wah" technique:

Did some solo stuff, too, with Mac Gayden and Skyboat. Here's another stellar example of the slide-wah:

Good one, Joe.

I saw you'd posted that and was gonna post "Morning Glory", but Horsey beat me to it.

So, I'll post this instead:
(I can't tell if there's wah on it or not, but if there isn't, there should be.)

one Mr. Brett Netson and his patented "bag of cats"! if you all have never checked out Caustic Resin it's well worth a listen... especially the LP "the medicine is all gone"

here he is doing all the wah guitar parts on "i would hurt a fly" from the LP "perfect from now on" by BTS

^ Big love for Caustic Resin here. "Fly Me to the Moon" still blows my head off after all these years!

Love this thread.

Here's an excellent workout by Chinna. (Some Clavinet in there too.):
