Terry Reid is the dude that Led Zeppelin originally tried to recruit to be their singer, but he turned them down so they had to settle for Bobby Plant.
Here is his first album, Bang, Bang You're Terry Reid, which I transferred last night from vinyl:

Edit: Wups, guess I should have posted this is the audio/video section.

Thanks for that! I'll have to load that on my iPod! I had heard of Terry Reid years ago, (likely from all the Zeppelin-related books I read as a kid), but only recently heard the man.
Holy crap - there's something in the water in the UK - so many great and distinctive vocalists. Terry Reid, Steve Marriott, Paul Rodgers, Frankie Miller, Noddy Holder, Alex Harvey, etc...
Much appreciated!

Imagine this guy, Pete Best and (to lesser extent) maybe Rod Evans and Paul Di'Anno in the pub...Sickle wrote:I wonder how many times this guy has kicked himself in the pants..

Good shit mate, I've always loved Terry Reid ever since I first heard Seed of Memory. Brilliant songwriter and a mean-assed singer too.

Wow, tags and everything. Thanks again!
After having a listen to this and then reading through Terry's discography I found it interesting to see all the Donovan covers. When Terry sings quietly the Donovan influence really stands out to me.
I don't know that I'm bowled over by his writing but the voice is incredible. Well, I realize he was only 19 when this album came out...and "Seed of Memory" is definitely an incredibly well written tune...

I've seen that particular performance on Youtube - it's great! Although I can't help but think it's Harry Dean Stanton up there...
