Review and Demo of the D*A*M Fuzz Sound MkIII...
Yo,
Well I guess this is the first "review" of the D*A*M Fuzz Sound MkIII... and I'm honoured to be the one writing it.
I have the Black n' Gold one with the 2 Mullard OC84's and a Blue Sleeved Mullard OC45. It's serial number 9 and it's already become my pride and joy!
Godamn, this pedal really is a sweet tone machine. I swear I've never heard a fuzz this good. It's so flexible... every single position on the "TREBLE'N'BASS" control is totally usable! The same goes for the "SUSTAIN" control, it feels similar to a MkII in that it has a nice amount of gain from very early on. It also reacts to volume control changes alot like my MkII; you can get some real nice shades of subtle fuzz/overdriven tones.
The sentence in Dave's blurb that said "and the go fuck yourself volume of a Big Muff" is absolutely spot on!... naturally ;)
This thing can get seriously loud and maintains it's complex texture at high and low volumes. It sounds immense played loud though, I had it so all the windows around me were shaking and it just sang like some kind of demented hell bird. It soars into the most controllable and musical feedback you're ever likely to hear and it sustains forever.
It sounded fantastic with every guitar I tried it with;
* Tele (w/Bareknuckle Brown Sugar pickups)
* Strat (w/Bareknuckle Mothers Milk pickups)
* Gibson Les Paul Studio (w/Stock Gibson 490R/498T Pickups)
* Epiphone Elitist Casino (w/Gibson P90's)
I'm using this to demonstrate that it works with many different pickup types, overall though I guess it sounded best with the slightly lower output pickups (a little more definition and a better reaction to volume adjustments at the guitar).
I have so far only tried it with my Fender Deluxe Reverb (w/Cannabis Rex speaker), but I plan to put it through my Marshall 2555 Jubilee later. I'm thinking it'll suit that real well, the closed back 4x12 will really help to project all of the gut wrenching force this pedal can offer. So I'm gonna come back to this and add ALOT more once I've really put it through it's paces. I'm also going to record a bunch of clips through different setups. But for now, here's a really quick clip of it...
* Fuzz Sound controls all set at noon, part way through I jump the sustain up to nearly full
* Deluxe Reverb set as follows on the "Normal Channel"; Volume; 3, Treble 4.5, Bass 4
* Fender 62' Custom Telecaster w/Bare Knuckle Brown Sugars.
I start with the riff from Seer by Witch (inspired by one of the Captains' photos of the Fuzz Sound!, then I go on to some random riffage and noodling.
So, without further a-do, here's the clip;

As I said, I will do some better and longer clips very soon.
Cheers,
Xan :)
P.S: Oh, and just to add.. a friend asked me tonight if it's really worth £350...
... fuck yes, it is! It really is!

Phew! Kinda relived to read that, man. I've been a little edgy about how these will go down Great words there Xan and a fucking amazing clip!! As always a real joy to listen too. Nice opening riffage too!!
Did I mention about setting the controls at noon or did you just do that by instinct?? I really wanted this pedal to be playable and kinda like a neutral palette, if that makes sense, with everything at noon so even cooler still you started out your clip that way

Great review and clip Xan!
It's amazing how much ground can be covered with it !
I'd love to hear one through a cranked up Matamp tuned down to C or so

Well done, sir.
I'd love to hear that pedal with heavier settings.
