Unless you chance upon a bargain or reasonable buy it now no ebay, I think this will nearly always be the case now for ye olde MKI/MK1.5/MKII/MKIII fuzz pedals.[/quote]

Well, yes Philip, I've been living now for a long time with this TB box mostly asleep in my drawer, but at the same time as a good memory of England and as a kind of connecter with my old love for Kieth Relf, Tops, Eric, Jeff and Jimmi... - As I've said, I now need the resources more, and can fake a good sound on Guitar Rig 2, with different Tube- and Tweed-sounds, more of my taste... I,d rather not go out on eBay and also wonder if that suggestion of letting Donovan help with an auction here is a real possibility? I,ve gotten a good inofficial bid, so far - and I'm also starting to like this land of Stompboxes, this site, more and more... / B

Hej g-w-i!

Thanks! You don't happen to have access to old Sola buisness trades registers with Music stores north of London, like in Cambridge, in 1966..? I'd really love to know which shop my mk1.5 was bought in, by my uncle... Rather big street in the centre, on the second floor...

You know, as I told Philip (above), I'm a strange melancolic viking and so far I can fake a good synthetic Tube/Tweed sound with Guitar Rig 2, and I'm also serious about looking up "my" old Agaphone (high above) at my grandma's, if she hasn't thrown it... God forbid! - Me and my three bandmates - in daneANDswede - are bulding our studio, as I've said, and we're, economically, rather simple guys - at least three of us...

I spend 1/3 of my daily life with coffedrinking at Bananza on Ringvägen, in Southern Stockholm, and 1/3 on the island [*]Årsta holmar [*] near by, a totally untouched natural place close to central Stockholm, where I just listen to the birds and watch the sheep pass by... something that my mates don't appreciate, when we're building and playing! I think they'd rather split life in twos... That is: 1. coffe and 2. playing!

But, still thanks...!

Hälsningar / Bert

I cant remember as I was only 3 - but I'm going to try to find out for you . Cambridge music store - 2 floors - 1966 .
There's always the chance it was second hand of course - I'm not sure we were selling out of anywhere but Macaris at that point !

Hej igen, my friend Get-with-it!

First let me try a D*A*M 1966 smiley (close relative to ol' mr Bent Tone) that I made with the help of our band's geek. Hope it works - and if it does, you can use it - and then we'll develope it further...

OK, I see we have to cut away some white edges..!

Now, simple uncle says: 100% sure - rather big business street; he thinks the music store was only on the second floor, and the TB box was inside a glass desk. He saw it as something magical shining through the glass. He was astounded, as he was well aware of and interested in these fuzz sounds already at that time (summer 66), after Satisfaction, Heart full of Soul and some Beatles stuff and you could also read about all those things early, in Sweden. And, yes, it was in Cambridge, where Syd Barrett and the guys where rolling. (I,ve got a copy from my uncle of the original Arnold Layne, even though it's printed in France...!) And the fuzz box was of course absolutly brand new! No second hand what so ever - no single chance!

(This could be a subject of an academic socio-musical research job at the local Cambridge college). It would be super nice if you'd find the place...

Hey Bert,

Re; the Arnold Layne single...Nice!! :crackjam:

Though I've never been to Cambridge, I know it's a sort of second home for me. Someday I will make a special trip there. I'll be willing to bet that Roger "Syd" Barrett and co. frequented Cambridge Music Store your uncle bought that baby at, as they were not yet famous (as The Pink Floyd) yet in 1966, and were not yet London based. They were variously known as Architectural Abdabs, Sigma 6, The Pink Floyd Steel Band c.'66. I think he switched to a Sola Sound Tone Bender and Vox "Gray" Wah around this time...

Do a little research (ie: Search) about the auctions we hold here on this forum. It's pretty basic and straightforward. This is where all the vintage fuzz mavens congregate anyway. (especially regarding vintage Sola Sound stomps). Be assured it would be a highly watched event and you will get maximum exposure if you do so.

PS: It would be of special interest for me if someone could come up with an old photograph of Cambridge Music Store. (Ant? Philip?)

Good luck!

Hej Psycho!
Well, concerning the Arnol Layne single, I don't know if it's rather an EP, with Arnold Layne and Candy and a currant bun on one side and Interstellar overdrive on the other - made in France without any printed year.
Very interesting to read all you know about Pink Floyd (which is very much out over the ordinary), and that you like Cambridge so much. I was once in Cambridge for a day and punted on the Came. And my uncle attended Bell School over the summer 66 and lived on Park Parade 16 by a park somewhere in outskirts, with a nice family Hayes.
I never thought of it as strange that they sold a Tone Bender in Cambridge 1966, as g-w-i says, but maybe it is very special. He should know. One explanation could be that some guy(s) had ordered one from London and that the store ordered one extra at the same time...?
A side theme is with these very special rock-biographies, like Syd Barrett and Brian Wilson also, for that matter. Subjects for future rockoperas! I mean, Pink Floyd already started an opera of their lost mate...
One of my best friends is a totally respected colour designer, not only in Sweden - and now I've discovered that he's colourblind...! He can't differ red from green! And the biggest surf-singer, Brian Wilson, was scared of the water - and of touring...!

Concerning an auction - someone suggested I'd ask Donovan, for help. But is that in line with the rules of these pages?

Yes, Psycho, we'll also find out about the Cambridge Music store, with a little help of our friends!

If this store existed, there will be some kind of info or anecdote about it somewhere. I'll look in my 60's Beat Instrumental magazines and see if there's any mention of it there. :tu:

Get-with-it, Philip & psycho!

I've looked at different music stores on the web and talked to my uncle - and called Cambridge a couple of times. Now we know where the store is! It's on Sussex Street 12, and you can see it in the beginning of a short video about a music store in Cambridge: Miller's Music Centre
http://www.millersmusiccentre.co.uk/ind ... page&id=14
That's the place, and the Tone Bender was sold on the second floor. But, it,s not sure that it was Miller's at that time. They've bought another store: Ken Stevens Music and Instruments that was more into rock than Miller's. In the end of the Miller's history, on the same net page, Ken Steven's store is called "mecca":

"Ken Stevens Music and Instruments was established in the 60's as a mecca for the band instrument musician. It expanded until the 80's as the acknowledged specialist for educational, group and light entertainment instruments, carrying a wide range of sheet music plus tutors and exam music. The Miller family acquired Ken Stevens in 1980 and formed a new associated company."
In the book "Floydspotting" that seems only to be in italian(!?) there is a sentence: "...Gilmour provava le chitarre, Ken Stevens Music...", which might mean that Gilmour tried out a guitar in this shop.

And, psycho, I just read in a blogg -
http://ledouxjoseph.blogspot.com/2009/0 ... drive.html - of a play about Syd Barrett!
Tom Stoppard’s “Rock ‘n’ Roll”: This czech girl is a student in Cambridge in the 60:s and hears a guy playing flute (Syd Barrett) etc. When she comes back 40 years later she gets fascinated by this man bicycling around in the town..!

OK: The place is Sussex Street 12, and the store was probably Ken Stevens Music (or Miller's Music).

Så långt så väl = So far so good.../ Bert
