Sola Sound - Pigdog Pedals - MKI Tone Bender (modified)

Post by Philip »

In order to bring some of the flavour of the 'system' MKI to my SolaSound/Pigdog MKI, I decided to try and do an non evasive modification to it. Here's what it sounds like.

Laundromat or someone else who knows what's what can explain what the mod is and does. :smashed:

Isolated guitar & bass.

The Tone Bender sounds so good, but that song is stealing the show, I love it! Your playing is always so tasty, if I was local I would pester you to play gigs constantly.

Anyone want to chime in and explain what modification was done to the pedal? It sounds great!

Read about the Dave built MKI here: https://stompboxes.co.uk/forum/viewtopi ... 54&t=20970

The piggybacked resistor shown on top in the attached photo of Dave's Sola MKI build is the unusual/unique thing about the System MKI.

It's not part of Steve's built Sola MKI's, so to get some of that flavour I added a 330k, by means of winding resistor legs around 330k that's already there in my Steve built Sola MKI giving it a less extreme version of that System MKI 'velcro' sound.

470k paralleled with 330k give approx 194k - pretty close to a single 180k resistor, what is not something one wouldn't see in a 'standard' MKI. By design, I wouldn't call it a modification, rather an implementation of correct value to get 'correct' bias range of the particular transistor. So making this mod to one pedal is not exactly duplicating effect of another pedal with such feature originally designed. The problem is meaning of 'correct', which pretty much depends on what it was aimed for ;)
