Red electrical tape. The feet hold the bottom plate, so I guess it's for extra security on the jack plugs. They also wrote JH EXP on the tape - I have a photo of one somewhere.

ah good info- so is there any exterior differences between the different clydes and the v846 (except the bottom plate)?
any blank front v846’s? or v846 with the painted broken O as opposed to the molded O?

Most Clydes and all V846s that I've seen had the same type of enclosure, so there's no way to distinguish them from photos. The only ones that have the bar in the O cast in are the larger, more rounded enclosures like the one you had recently. I've come across a handful of those with Clyde bottom plates, but they could have been swapped at some point. Most are the plain "transitional" (ugh ) model. I've never seen a blank fronted V846.
