The cost of pressing cases is much lower BUT the cost of cleaning up an old pressing tool and making it work again is horrendous .

Ant, I don't know if it translates to pedals but when Ducati do limited race bikes for public consumption they use sand cast engine cases. They are cheaper than die cast and in many cases stronger.

We have to be careful on the casting front . We use the very best casting company in the Uk - they are also probably the most expensive - but that's our whole thinking behind these latest pedals - no corners cut - best cases - best builder - best salesman (maybe not) - just working on the best guy to demo them now :)

In other words - we cant really start a casting from scratch unless we know it's going to sell in numbers - we need to sell quite a few just to cover the cost of the casting set-up *

Doesn't mean we WILL tread carefully mind you !

Hope the info on sand casting helps. There's lots of casting places here in Detroit related to car parts. Wonder what rates they charge. With the toilet paper dollar you may be able to get work done less expensively "offshore" here in the US, while still maintaining quality.
