Stop! Hammer Time!

Post by Big Monk » Sat Nov 21, 2020 12:34 am

In typical fashion for me, I researched the shit out of applying Hammertone paint, lusted after all the beautiful Instagram shots of Hammertone equipped fuzziness, and then decided to wing it at 5:30 in between dinner and cleaning the kitchen.

These are proof of concept enclosures before I do official prototypes for my 4 planned pedals.

Top came out shockingly good, for me at least, especially considering I’ve never used it. I think future iterations will get taped off, shot with a non Hammertone color, then taped off and Hammertone on the top.

Overall, I’m not entirely upset. Will likely lightly sand the sides when it dries and apply very light coats until it looks good then clear coat.

looks good!
what paint are you using? spray on?

Hammerite Rust Cap Hammered Enamel Finish seems like the best one - not finding any UK suppliers for the aerosol, but the colours are nice...

I used Rustoleum Brand Hammered Spray Paint because it’s what caught my eye at Home Depot. I’m not sure if I would use the spray again. It would take way too many spray and dry runs to hit all sides without drips while still getting it to “hammer” properly. This could also be my inexperience as well but a proper “hammer” on top meant I had overflow on the sides. And a proper “hammer” on the sides meant overspray onto the perfect top.

I saw a Manlay Sound post on Instagram where he was rolling it for the Ronno Bender. I picked up 2 quarts of Hammerite in the can today and that’s my next experiment.

It’s the Bare Box #1 from Small Bear. I’m designing around it. It fits a 60x60 mm board with 54 mm mounting hole centers.

I’m designing custom circuit boards to fit.
