I guess I'm kinda a new at D*A*M. I've been here just over a year now. My name is Chris and I'm addicted to ALL things music. I'm 44. Born and breast fed in Toronto Canada in the sixties. Grew up and watched Fonzi and Evil Knievel in the 70's. Became a man in the 80's shooting shots on work nights. Got married in the 90's with no money driving a GM parts truck. Had a wonderful baby girl just a month after 9-11. (That will settle any crazy hard drivin young basterd). I've been playing music since I was 18. I've been listening to music, as long as I can remember. From Abbey Road in my mom's car on 8track, to my dad's hand me down Muddy Water and Stones records. To my very first LP purchase. BTO'S - FOUR WHEEL DRIVE. I've fucked to the Clash, Iggy and the Dead Boys. I've tripped on mushrooms to Floyd, Captain Beyond and the Velvet Underground. I've got 420 stoned drunk to Zep, Skynyrd and the Allmans...I've done blow to G&R, Sisters Of Mercy, Skid Row, and Whitesnake...I was addicted to red wine while painting oil on canvass to the soundtrack of Monster Magnet, Sir Lord Baltimore and heavy dark blues in a studio loft (those days were cool) Clean from substance and all things evil for some time now. I still live here in mid town Toronto. I travel south to the sun every chance I get. ( I leave for Cuba again in two weeks). I'm Graphic Artist slash digital production artist for the print industry. I've owned my own business, but I now work for the largest magazine publisher in Canada as a pre-press guru for fashion magazine ads.

... I'm almost 45 and still alive and well. I have yet to make a wax LP to leave on mother earths doorstep. ( If she'll let me). I just lost my life long best friend, but this ironically, opened up a creative musical revelation and I feel I'm kickin down some good music these days. I still love my redhead wife of 10 years. I don't waist time no more. My kid seems to love music and animals . I guess I'm winning.

My only vice at this point as far as I can tell, - as I spin around the sun......is cold beer, a live show, good tone..... and a D*A*M good stomp pedal!

Now you know :headbanger:

I am involved in three bands: Odhinn (side long space rock jams worshipping Amon Duul II and thee mighty Hawkwind), Sungod (guitar and drums, loudLOUD...Swans & Sleep & Sonic Youth?) and most recently d'Auseil (improvised droning and noise owing to Tangerine Dream, Spacemen 3, and Cluster).

I own:
1 Purple Plum Meathead
1 1966 with dual OC76s
1 Fuzzaround (black)

run with:
1 EHX deluxe big muff

I think I may have some a one off eBay posting for one of those graphic fuzzes but my memory is...well fuzzy. How is it? A guy I knew bought one of the ESR's at a pawn shop for like $250. I traded him an immaculate Sunn Sorado for it with the condition that he pay for a recap and retube of the Earth...he agreed. I lucked into the second from a random Craigslist ad, though it took about 6 months of being in and out of shops to get it to work right.

And every time I see the flyer for that Sleep/Hawkwind tour...I get so bummed. It was 1994 right? I was 8! :bangs head:

hi everyone,
i'm jim roth, a super noob here! not even a month. anyway, i'm 46, my wife Tara and i just had our first son Eliot in december, and i play in the band BUILT TO SPILL. here is a pic of me after just waking up, on tour somewhere in germany.

i live in seattle WA (for 17 years), but lived most of my life in Iowa (des moines/iowa city). i played in THE HOLLOWMEN in the late 80's and VOODOO GEARSHIFT through the mid 90's. the GEARSHIFT got signed in 91' to CZ records in seattle and we subsequently moved here in early 92'. after touring like crazy and playing with some great bands for nearly 10 years the GEARSHIFT had had it. we never formally broke up, just stopped playing, in 96'. i went on and formed THE DELUSIONS with my friends dave keppel and matt marti who previously played in the seattle band BONE CELLAR. after several years with THE DELUSIONS i ended up hooking up with BUILT TO SPILL. i joined BTS in 1999 and have gone all over hell with them since.
throughout all that, i'd accumulated a fair amount of musical equipment, which i routinely spent a fortune on to get fixed. finally, poverty/necessity drove me to figure out how to fix a tube amplifier (thanks aspen pittman and gerald weber!!). i've been fixing amps since the end of the last century and picked up pedal fixing/making a few years later. i wouldn't call myself a true builder (i'm not trying to start a business or anything), but since then i've made a few pedals for the band and fix up all our gear too.

through my years of repair i know i stumbled on the old D*A*M forum several times, but i don't usually frequent any sites regularly. i'd just go out looking for something pertaining to what i was fixing or thinking of. i'd never join any. they're all bright white, sterile and seemed strange to me. they'd usually have some info, but too many of the members seemed like total wankers! this place is waaaay different!! everyone respects one another, the conversations are relevant and helpful, and it feels like a community. plus, Sickle keeps the riff raff out!!!

i love jazzmasters, telecasters, orange/matamp, a good fender (tweed deluxe-super reverb) and all manner of fuzz. i have a medium sized collection of stuff...too much to list, but nothing like API or GRAHAM have!!, plus a small but fairly well equipped studio in the basement (2"-24 track!). and like i said, repair any manner of tube amps, and build a few pedals, here and there, between tours and now...diapers. i've posted a thread in the new NEW BUILDERS section,viewtopic.php?f=31&t=1645viewtopic.php?f=31&t=1645 if anyone has any interest.

i'd like to thank the CAPTAIN for having this place, being totally cool, and making such kick ass pedals! and to SICKLE for everything he does!! :headbanger:

see ya'll round the place!

p.s. here's a couple of shots of stuff

[Sickle moderator edit: Jim is a bashful kinda guy, and I need to step in here and let people know he's got some cool pedals he's built for sale in the new 3rd party area: http://www.stompboxes.co.uk/forum/viewt ... 45&start=0

Great stuff, I have a BRSSY, a Maestro Brassmaster clone, and love it to pieces.. ]

Hi man,
What a lovely collection of gear! It' s flattering to be mistaken for Graham, but it is he, not I , that has the world's best collection of anything you could possibly lust after relating to rock and roll. My collection of stuff is pathetic in comparison to most of my fellow listers. I think it's because we sometimes sign our posts with G. that caused the confusion. Nice to have you along for a ride on the best board on the web..
