Looking for Gibson footswitch...

Post by Doc Holliday »

So I’ve got my eyes on a Gibson amp but the tremolo pedal is not intact with the amp.
I’ve been told it’s working but without the footswitch I don’t know how you’d tell.
There are other alternatives but I do like originality with these amps.

Anywho anyone know of any amp parts places or have a Gibson non working amp which they don’t want the trem pedal. Looks like this...

Are the trem footswitches hardwired into those, Doc? They're not like a VibroChamp, which has an RCA jack at the back of the amp for the footswitch? With a VibroChamp, for example, you can still use the trem without a footswitch just by tuning the trem controls past zero. Same on my other older amps (Airline, Magnatone). Those both use a standard 1/4" jack for the trem footswitch, but the trem will still work regardless of whether the footswitch is plugged in or not.
Gibson amps also had those little storage brackets for the footswitch inside the cab, didn't they? No excuse to lose it then!

Yes the lamp cable splits and attatches to 2 pots.
No RCA connection for these old boy’s unfortunately.
The seller said his tech said the trem circuit ( 4 caps ) are all there but it’s not working. But the seller didn’t know it should have come with a switch.

So im guessing the trem would not operate without the pedal, still those 4 caps could need swapping out also ...

It’s the trem that sets me off with this amp so I’d want it or will need to get it functioning

Can't you just put an aligator clip jumper cable between the two pots just to see if the trem works or not?

I haven’t purchased the amp yet.
But that’s prob the best idea.
I’m just weighing everything up before I purchase.
I like to have everything working and usually as original as.
So I’d like the footswitch for originality of amp.
There’s a guy on reverb who makes ones which look like the old fender door wedges. They’re £100 though so thought I’d look for a 2nd hand original see what they go for
